Series of important contracts for Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. Equinor and Polenergia are not slowing down

Equinor and Polenergia have signed a series of important contracts for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farm projects. The companies implementing the two projects have entered into agreements with the Polish companies Enprom, the consortium of Smulders Projects and Sif, and the companies Iemants. The contracts include installation of onshore cables, the manufacture of transition pieces for wind turbines and the construction of two offshore substations. The signing of these contracts is another important announcement after both projects received complete offshore and onshore construction permits. The offshore wind farm projects are of the largest infrastructure projects in Poland's history.

We are entering the most important stage of the Bałtyk 2 and 3 projects. Having obtained a set of 17 construction permits, we are moving forward, signing a number of important contracts with internationally recognized suppliers. We are very pleased that among them is a company from Poland, that will carry out key work for us on the installation of onshore power cables. Thanks to the contracts we have signed, we are getting closer to finalizing the contracting of the most important elements of both projects. And this means that we will be ready to start construction of offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3.

Important day for local content

The Polish company that will perform work on the construction of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects is Enprom. Enprom is one of Poland’s leading electrical construction companies operating at home and abroad, which will build overland cable lines for both projects.

Enprom is one of Poland’s leading power construction companies operating at home and abroad, which will install the onshore power cable lines for both projects. Enprom will be the main contractor for four 220 kV cable tracks of about 7 km in length, which will connect the offshore power to the onshore substations, and two 400 kV tracks leading then to the PSE substation located more than 6 km away. All sections will also be accompanied by telecommunications fiber optic cables.

Offshore stations and transition pieces

The Smulders and Sif Consortium will manufacture 100 transition pieces connecting the foundation (monopile) to the wind turbine tower. The work will include the structure including equipment, 50 elements for each of the projects.

Production of some of the steel elements will be carried out at Smulders’ Polish facilities in Żory. Smulders, a subsidiary of France’s Eiffage Group, is an international company with facilities in Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and the UK. The company is involved in engineering and manufacturing projects, mainly for offshore wind power. Sif offers comprehensive solutions in the design and manufacture of foundations for offshore wind farms. The company mainly manufactures monopiles, transition piece parts and piles with which wind turbine foundations can be anchored to the seabed.

Iemants is a subsidiary of Smulders, which will be responsible for the design and construction of two offshore substations for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. The scope of work includes engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of the two offshore substation platforms consisting of a topside and a jacket.

The signing of the next important contracts for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects was possible thanks to the professionalism of many experts and the well-planned procurement procedures and investment schedule. The participation of Polish entities and production facilities is also a confirmation of our commitment to local content and building added value from offshore investments for the Polish economy.

About the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects

The offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, with a total capacity of 1440 MW, will be able to supply more than 2 million households with green energy. The projects are located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, between 22 and 37 kilometers from the coastline.

The first energy from the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects is expected to flow into the grid as early as 2027. The commercial phase of their operation is planned from 2028.

In the next phase of offshore wind power development in Poland, Equinor and Polenergia are developing the Bałtyk 1 project, which will be 81 km offshore. Bałtyk 1, with a capacity of up to 1560 MW, is the project of the largest wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea, which is being prepared for auction in 2025.
