Polenergia’s Green Generation Capacity Grows by 15%

Polenergia S.A. (“Polenergia”), the largest private energy group in Poland, has launched the Szymankowo Wind Farm with a capacity of 38 MW. Hence, the portfolio of all wind investments of the Group grew by 15% to 287 MW. Polenergia is solidifying its position in the group of leaders actively supporting transformation of the Polish energy market by developing low-emission economy, clean and renewable sources of energy.

The Szymankowo Wind Farm is the ninth investment of Polenergia in onshore wind farms. It is located in the Miłoradz Commune in the Pomorskie Province. It comprises 11 turbines, each with a capacity of 3.45 MW. These are some of the most modern and simultaneously the largest wind turbines in Poland. The gondola is located at the height of 134 m above the ground, while the diameter of the blades is 132 m. The total height is 200 m. The capacity of the entire farm is 38 MW. The estimated annual production of clean and green energy will approximate 120 GWh, which corresponds to the annual demand for electricity of 60,000 households. Thanks to project performance, it will be possible to avoid emission of pollution on the level reaching even 104,000 tons of CO2, 98 tons of SO2, 99 tons of NOx, 35 tons of CO and 6 tons of dust.

The construction of the Szymankowo Wind Farm took less than two years and was monitored regularly by specialists from BIO EKSPERT, responsible for nature supervision. The supplier of the turbines, and also the entity offering technical maintenance services for the period of 25 years from the start-up moment is Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. The contractor of construction work was ONDE which forms a part of ERBUD. The role of the Contract Engineer during performance of the investment was performed by Bilfinger Tebodin Polska.

“We waited for the new wind farm for more than 5 years. This is a joint success of Polenergia and our contractors. We are proudly adding 38 MW to our portfolio of wind projects. We have over 287 MW of generation capacity, and we will soon add 148 MW from the farms constructed in Dębsk and Kostomłoty. We are consistently pursuing our strategy which puts us in the group of leaders actively supporting transformation of the Polish energy market. We are one of the largest domestic producers of energy from onshore wind farms. Until the start-up of the first turbines at the Baltic Sea, this segment of our operation will remain the main source of the clean, green energy that is delivered to an ever-growing group of clients, both business and individual,”

Michał Michalski Ph. D

President of the Management Board of Polenergia

The performance of the Szymankowo Wind Farm would not have been possible without very good cooperation with the local government. In 2015, the environmental impact assessment carried out by the head of the Miłoradz Commune was completed for the project. The farm’s location complies with the spatial management plan of the commune, as well as the local spatial management plan for the area in geodetic districts Gnojewo, Stara Kościelnica, Miłoradz, Mątowy Wielkie intended for the location of wind farms along with technical infrastructure in the Miłoradz Commune.

“I would like to congratulate Polenergia on its consistency in action, determination and efficient project implementation, which is changing the Polish energy market and developing zero emission economy based on clean and renewable energy sources. At the same time, I would like to thank the management board and the contractors for exemplary cooperation during the term of the investment. I particularly appreciate the fact that Polenergia is intent on corporate social responsibility and supports numerous local initiatives developing education, cultural and sports events, which improve the quality of life of residents in the Miłoradz Commune,”

Arkadiusz Skorek

head of the Miłoradz Commune

In November 2019, Polenergia procured PLN 107 million to finance the Szymankowo Wind Farm project. The consortium of lending banks included: EBRD, mBank and ING Bank Śląski. The financing was offered in the Project Finance formula and was one of the first financing for wind farms in Poland of this type without long-term contracts for collection of electric energy. Such financing formula was possible thanks to good and long-lasting cooperation of the Group with the banks and perception of Polenergia as a good and reliable business partner by the banks. In December 2019, the Szymankowo Wind Farm won an auction for new onshore wind farms and thus received guaranteed 15-year support – in consequence, in July 2020 it received increased financing in the form of an investment loan up to the level of PLN 171 million, which positively affected project profitability.
