Polenergia will provide green energy for all 24,000 InPost Group Paczkomat® machines in Poland. This is the result of a multi-year renewable energy contract

Polenergia will provide green energy for all, almost 24,000 InPost Paczkomat® machines in Poland. This is the result of a multi-year renewable energy contract. Thanks to the contract with the largest Polish private energy group, InPost will also green a significant share of energy for its fleet of 1,300 electric cars, branches and sorting centres. The clean energy will be produced by Polenergia's Dębsk Wind Farm. It is one of the largest wind farms in Poland.

InPost is the undisputed leader among delivery platforms for the e-commerce sector in Europe. Polenergia will provide InPost with constant supplies of energy generated in renewable energy sources through a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement). The energy has guarantees of origin. The source of its generation will be the 121 MW Dębsk Wind Farm.

– This is a groundbreaking contract. Thanks to the agreement with Polenergia, nearly 24,000 Paczkomat® machines in Poland will use only green energy, generated in our renewable sources. Clean energy supplied by Polenergia will also significantly power the fleet of 1,300 electric cars and InPost branches and sorting centres, contributing to the reduction of carbon dioxide. We are extremely pleased that such a valued and recognizable brand on the European market has trusted us. We are connected not only by the contract for green energy, but also by common values. InPost joins the group of Polenergia's business partners, for whom decarbonization and zero emissions are an absolute priority.

The Dębsk Wind Farm, which will produce energy for InPost, is the largest onshore renewable energy investment in the history of Polenergia and at the same time one of the largest wind farms in Poland. The estimated annual production of the power plant is approximately 366 GWh, which corresponds to the annual demand for electricity of over 183,000 households.

The agreement signed with Polenergia is another step for InPost in its quest to use 100% zero-emission electricity. The contracted volume will allow for the greening of energy used in all Paczkomat® devices in Poland and the greening of a significant share of electricity used by electric cars, branches and sorting centres, which will contribute to a total reduction of CO2e emissions by almost 125,000 tons.

The PPA with Polenergia is a very important step for us in implementing the Decarbonization Strategy. Thanks to this green energy, the operation of the Paczkomat® network of devices in Poland will be zero-emission from 2025. On the other hand, the investment in the electric fleet implemented in recent years will bring the expected reductions, which would not be possible if we used conventional energy sources. Thanks to this project, we will reduce the CO2 emissions of the InPost Group, but also the average emission of a parcel delivery, which is crucial for our customers and business partners.

Already in 2023, all Paczkomat® devices were powered by green energy, thanks to the purchase and cancellation of the Guarantee of Origin, which certifies that it came from renewable energy sources - wind and sun. These activities are continued in 2024. The PPA that we signed with Polenergia has yet another dimension, as it will help implement new investments in renewable energy sources.

Izabela Karolczyk-Szafrańska

At the end of the second quarter of 2024, the InPost Group had over 73,000 out-of-home points, including over 40,000 modern Paczkomat® devices and nearly 33,000 PUDO points in 9 countries (Great Britain, France, Poland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands). InPost also provides courier and fulfillment services for e-commerce sellers, cooperating with approximately 100,000 e-sellers. In 2023 alone, the company handled 892 million shipments.

For years, one of the priorities of the InPost Group has been caring for the natural environment. The Decarbonization Strategy of the leader in logistics solutions for the e-commerce industry in Europe is an integral complement to the business strategy. InPost, as one of the first on the Polish market, joined the SBTi initiative – it intends to reach the NET-ZERO level by 2040.

Polenergia is the largest Polish private energy group, which is one of the leaders in the renewable energy sector. The group is involved in the development of onshore wind farms, photovoltaic farms, electromobility and hydrogen transformation.

Polenergia’s strategic project is the construction of three wind farms in the Baltic Sea together with the Norwegian energy giant – Equinor. This is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the history of Poland.

PPAs for the purchase of green energy generated 100% from renewable energy are intended for companies that plan to diversify their energy sources and reduce their carbon footprint.
