Polish supply chain company begins cooperation with Equinor and Polenergia. Tele-Fonika will supply cables for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms

Equinor and Polenergia, which are jointly developing three wind farms in the Baltic Sea, have signed a major component supply agreement with Tele-Fonika Kable. The Polish company will manufacture and supply land cables for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. Tele-Fonika Kable is among the world's leading cable companies.

We want our investments to contribute to job creation and strengthen domestic companies in various industries. The potential of Polish contractors in the renewable energy market is very high. By signing an agreement with Tele-Fonika Kable, we want to clearly emphasize this. The Polish manufacturer, which is one of the world leaders in the cable industry, will make very important components for us to operate the Bałtyk 2 and 3 projects. At the same time, it is another Polish company, with whom we are tying up in connection with the implementation of our offshore wind farms.

Jerzy Zań

CEO of Polenergia S.A.

Tele-Fonika Kable is a fully owned Polish company and a leading cable manufacturer. Products manufactured at Tele-Fonika’s plants find their customers in more than 80 countries. The company is a global supplier of high (HV) and extra-high voltage (EHV) cable systems for the renewable energy sector.

In the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects, Tele-Fonika Kable will be responsible for design work, production and delivery:

• 85 km of onshore HV 220 kV export cables, which will connect the offshore substation with the onshore substation

• 38 km of 400 kV onshore EHV cables, which will connect the projects’ onshore substation with the Słupsk Wierzbięcino substation, owned by the Polish Power Grid (PSE).

The cables will be 100 percent manufactured at the plant in Bydgoszcz and transported about 250 km away to their installation site on the Polish coast.

The agreement with Tele-Fonika Kable is an excellent example of Polish companies getting involved in offshore wind power projects. We are particularly pleased that the production stage will take place at the Bydgoszcz plant. It is important to emphasize that this is another agreement with a Polish company as the main supplier for the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects. This confirms that the development of the wind farm sector in the Baltic Sea is building a strong industry in Poland.

Country Manager of Equinor Poland

The offshore wind farms Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3, with a total capacity of 1440 MW, will be able to supply more than 2 million households with green energy. The projects are located in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, between 22 and 37 kilometers from the coastline.

The first energy from the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects is expected to flow into the grid as early as 2027. The commercial phase of their use is planned from 2028.

In the next phase of offshore wind power development in Poland, Equinor and Polenergia are developing the Bałtyk 1 project, which will be 81 kilometers from the shore. Bałtyk 1, with a capacity of up to 1560 MW, is the project of the largest wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea, which is being prepared for auction in 2025.

The three Bałtyk offshore wind farms will power more than 4 million households with green energy.

You can learn more about the projects at www.baltyk123.pl or in person at the “Offshore Wind Farm Information Center” that Equinor and Polenergia have launched in Łeba. Offshore wind energy is also the subject of the exhibition “Baltic. Sea of Green Energy”, which the two companies opened at the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.
